Research
I am a functional morphologist working on the body feather arrangements and the muscles which help the feathers to move, in Parrots and Cockatoos. I work on dead birds which are collected by my professor, vets and pet shops. I am interested in learning how the body feather arrangements help the birds to maintain a streamline motion while flying. I use techniques of micro-dissection to look how the feathers are positioned on the body. I develop the 3D models of the birds from CT scans in Avizo 3D (software) and make force diagrams of the feathers and the feather muscles in Maya (software).
For my master's thesis, I worked under the supervision of Dr. Anindita Bhadra in Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata (IISER Kolkata) on the Social Dynamics Within and Between Groups of Indian Free-ranging dogs (Canis lupus familiaris).
In the summer of 2017, I worked with Dr. Axel Brockmann at the National Center for Biological Sciences (NCBS) on Distance communication in Western honey bees (Apis mellifera).
